Seminário “Seismic Behavior and Innovative Reinforcement Techniques for Earthen Buildings”
Earthen buildings are the most commonly used type of construction over the world including several Historical Centers and Heritage Constructions. Many of these buildings are threatened by strong earthquakes especially in the western coast of America. A comprehensive experimental study including shaking table tests have been carried at the Catholic University in Peru (PUCP) on the last 25 years. This presentation is a summary of the work performed at PUCP including the latest reinforcement techniques using polypropylene grids as external reinforcement, with in plane shear and out of plane bending properties.
Daniel Torrealva is a civil engineer from Catholic University of Peru (1972) and MSc from University of California at Los Angeles (1980), over 30 years of experience in seismic vulnerability of earthen buildings and low strength masonry . Scholar at the Getty Conservation Institute in 2003-2004. Member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Earthen Architectural Heritage (ISCEAH) with experience in the restoration on stone and earth heritage buildings.
